it would be interesting to do a survey with the students involved in the 1989 protests and check what they think now with the history of Arab Spring, orange revolution, and other regime-change operations firmly established as case studies of outside-instigated chaoes (a success story has yet to emerge:)
I bet you any of those students who have half a brain will realize how misguided they were and how they could have led China to the abyss if the puppet masters behind the scene had been successful.
Also I suspect many of them are very happy with the fortunes they have managed to make during China's rise which would have been impossible if the country became a crony of the imperial empire. "Democracy and human rights" won't fill your pocket or your stomach - just ask any of the "democratic" allies of the US in the third world countries.
