An extremely fascinating document which sparkles with detail from multiple facets — some of which are known (family background, seriousness, background) but others that are intriguing (eg Buddhist influence, incorruptibility). Particularly fascinating is that, despite his positive experience staying with a Midwestern farm family and favorably attitude to the US, “he had no particular impression” of it [the US].

Also revealing is that the “professor” did not consider Xi to be particularly intelligent by the standards of their intellectual clique. Not surprising as none of the three greatest leaders of modern China (Mao, Deng, Xi) did not have a traditional reverence for academics that classical c culture implies (“laoshi”).

Who is the professor — he may still be active, if of emeritus status?
