In America you must unlearn any compassion you inherited from your upbringing in order to rise to the top. As you rise up the chain in business or government the compassionate are weeded out. You must ruthlessly pursue profit or policy execution regardless of the human impact in order to succeed. Any impulse to put the greater good first will be punished. Those who fire workers, strip assets, pump up stock prices with buy-backs, lie, cheat, bribe and steal (typically within the law) rise to the pinnacle of wealth and power. How else could a nation with 650,000 homeless, exorbitant healthcare, higher education and housing costs, as well as 2.4 million people in prison consider itself civilized? May the hard working boy scouts who run China never turn cynical, never sacrifice morality for money, and never compromise on the principles of communism. As long as they stay true to their communist and confucian principles, they will remain a beacon for the world. America is lost. Capitalism has seen to that.

Living in Canada I can see this disease has captured us a long time ago but was hidden for the sleepy middle class. The emperor is naked and we are foolishly busy consuming ourselves to death. I mean REAL DEATH from nuclear accidents or destruction of the ecosystem we inhabit so thoughtlessly. I have been to China twice and Russia twice, and it is so obvious to see that they are just MORAL PEOPLES …they must succeed in showing the rest of us where a just future lies. To paraphrase president Xi: « we must strive for a just future of moderate prosperity for all »,and the stern message of president Putin: « what is the point of living in a world without Russia ». My two cents
